Madrid Open Finals, The start of the second round in the NBA Playoffs And Club Football nears a conclusion - Week 18, 2023

In the past week we’ve gotten a new Chess World Champion, a couple of new cup winners in the Netherlands and Belgium. The first round of the NBA Playoffs have finished up with most of the matchups being very exciting and with unpredictable winners at the end. The Premier League had its two leaders face off with the winner being the most likely champion of the competition. This week we’ll get some finals, two grand tours starts and some deciding games at the end of the competitions.

Multi-Day Events

Basketball, Playoffs, NBA
The First Round matchups have come and gone. In the second round the Heat take the first game against Knicks. The other second round in the East is a fun matchup between the 76’ers and the Celtics. In the west the Nuggets took the lead against the Suns, whilst the Lakers had to wait for the Warriors to finish up their seven game series.

Tennis, Madrid Open, ATP 1000 & WTA 1000
The last stretch starts for this Spanish gravel court tournament with some of the biggest stars at the moment. The finals for the WTA is on Saturday and the ATP final is on Sunday.

Cycling, La Vuelta femenina
One of the three grand tours of the women’s road cycling starts on Monday and ends this Sunday. Tune in during the week for some fantastic Spanish landscapes and some great racing.

Monday - 1st of May

Football, Leicester City - Everton, Premier League
A very intersting duel between two teams fighting against relegation. I personally find a game between two teams who might relegate as opposed to two teams fighting for a championship. As the two teams who want to win a championship play to not lose the game, whereas these two teams both need to win and a draw is the same as losing.

Tuesday - 2nd Of May

Football, Arsenal - Chelsea, Premier League
Arsenal is now in a position they don’t have the result of the end of the season in their own hands. All they can do is win all of their remaining games and hope Manchester City lose points here and there.

Wednesday - 3rd Of May

Thursday - 4th Of May

Football, Udinese - Napoli, Serie A
The Italian championship can be cleaimed during this match by Napoli. What else are you going to do on a Thursday night?

Friday - 5th of may

Saturday - 6th Of May

Football, AC Milan - Lazio Roma, Serie A
With Napoli potentially wrapping up the title two days prior to this game the other top teams have everything to fight for in the hunt of European spots for next season.

Football, AS Roma - Inter Milan, Serie A
The other Roma vs Milan matchup on Saturday, same story as before. With Juventus’ points deduction being rescinded there are 6 teams fighting for 3 places in the Champions League, 1 place for the Europa League and 1 spot in the qualification of the Conference League.

Football, Benfica - SC Braga, Liga Portugal
Benfica are leading the way in Liga Portugal, however they’ve got a tough opponent that are looking to make the title race exciting as it looks for it’s conclusion. If Braga wins the title is open for three teams, themselves included.

Football, Real Madrid - Osasuna, Copa del Rey
A cup final in spain between the mighty Real Madrid and dark horse Osasuna who’ve been having a mighty season themselves. Eighth in the league with European Football still on the cards in the league and of course with a cup win.

Cycling, Giro d’Italia
The first grand tour of men’s cycling will start this Saturday in Italy with a Individual Time Trial. There’s some great riders coming with special mention to the Ineos team bringing the heat as a team.

Motorsport, Monaco E-Prix, Formula E
Probably the more exciting motorsport this week. For some reason the Monaco E-Prix keeps producing bangers for Formula E. If you think this will be boring because of the F1 version of this circuit, you’ll most probably be proven wrong.

Sunday - 7th Of May

Football, River Plate- Boca Juniors, Superliga Argentina
Probably one of the most exciting games in Football that isn’t played in the Europe. The passion that this game (or any game in Argentina) brings is something you need to see once. If you have the opportunity to watch this match, you won’t be dissapointed.

Football, Excelsior - Feyenoord, Eredivisie
Another potential championship game. After a great season with good football Feyenoord can win the title if the opponents allow it. Both PSV (#2) plays against the Sparta (#5) and Ajax (#3) plays AZ (#4) on Saturday. Which are also important for the final spots in Europe.

Football, Arsenal - Newcastle United, Premier League
Arsenal v. Newcastle being a must watch match as it’s a top 4 clash. Say that two years ago and you would’ve been declared crazy. Probably the most fun match in the Premier League this weekend.

Motorsport, Miami GP, Formula 1
This is probably one race you can miss in F1, if last year is what we can go by. I’m looking forward if the changes that are being made to the ‘circuit‘ will help the racing. After last weekend’s borefest I’m hoping for a great surprise.

That’s the weekly. Is there anything I’ve missed to write down? What are you excited for? Let me know.
