Road cycling is underway and Indian Wells - Week 10, 2023
After an energising 7-0 win victory for Liverpool over Manchester United, the start of the F1 and Indycar seasons and FC Barcelona winning el classico in the Spanish cup. It’s time for a new weekly. What are the recommendations for this week?
Monday - 6th of March
Road Cycling, Paris-Nice
Last week I forgot to add this road cycling tour in France. It has the likes of Pogacar and Vingegard in it. In the first stage was won in a sprint by Merlier, it wasn’t a straight forward sprint stage because of some steep climbing just before the finish. Just like the rest of this tour, the stages are quite tricky and we’ll probably see some fun cycling from here on out.
Road Cycling, Tirreno-Adriatico
Talking about road cycling with some stars, this Italian tour has Roglic, Van Aert, van der Poel and many more. You can tell the road cycling season has well and truly kicked off now. Be ready as the classics are coming up.
Tuesday - 7th of March
Football, Chelsea - Borussia Dortmund, Champions League
The German side goes in to this game 1-0 up, they also have quite good form in the Bundesliga. After defeating rivals RB Leipzig over the weekend they’re looking to knock Chelsea out of the tournament. That being said, this is Chelsea’s only way to redeem the season. After a difficult league campaign and a record winter transfer window that hasn’t turned the ship around yet. Time’s running out for the London based team. Can they turn this match around?
Wednesday - 8th of March
Football, Bayern München - Paris Saint-Germain
By far the most starpower in a matchup this week in European Football, that’s with Neymar missing the rest of the season for Paris. After a dissapointing first game can PSG bring the heat to turn this game around and progress to the next round? Or is this another season they’ve failed to reach the ambitions they’ve set for themselves. Bayern, serial winners, already have an advantage and also have the home fans cheering them on. Couldn’t go wrong, could it?
Tennis, Indian Wells, WTA/ATP
With WTA having their entire top 10 represented at this tournament and the ATP having close to their entire top 10 represented at this tournament. This tournament is sure to have some fireworks ready. The BNP Parisbas Open at Indian Wells is a must watch event, even if you’re just slightly interested in Tennis.
Thursday - 9th of March
Football, Sporting - Arsenal, Europa League
Arsenal is having a phenomenal season in the Premier League. However can they keep up in Europa? Sporting isn’t a small club, a little complacency can really hurt the London team.
Football, Sevilla - Fenerbahce, Europa League
This has potential to be a very fun matchup and setup for the return in Turkey as the Turkish fans are on a completely different level. Fenerbahce are back since 2021 after a couple of years of struggle. Where Sevilla the story is that they’re struggling after a couple of vey succesful seasons. Talk about narratives!
Friday - 10th of March
Sadly I couldn’t find any fun games or matches on the Friday, so watch Indian Wells, Paris-Nice or Tirreno-Adriatico.
Saturday - 11th of march
Football, Napoli - Atalanta, Serie A
Any excuse to watch the most fun team in Europe is a good excuse. Their opposition isn’t anything to scoff at either. With some fortunate results and they could well be playing for Champions League qualification. Napoli however got the league as good as in their trophy cabinet. Will they show some more dominance in the Serie A.
Rugby, Italy - Wales, Six Nations
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t know a lot about rugby and I love it! This matchup might not be the most interesting as it’s the two bottom teams playing eachother. It’s a good appetizer for the coming games.
Rugby, England - France, Six Nations
To swim or to drown, loser is out of contention and the winner still has a chance to win it all. Eventhough you’re still looking at the final game on Sunday to see if you still got a chance to begin with. Both teams are on equal points. Let’s get it.
Basketball, Sacremento Kings - Phoenix Suns, NBA
The team to beat versus the seemingly unbeatable team in the west. A great game to watch to see how the Suns are gelling and to see if the Kings are going to make us believe the hype.
Sunday - 12th of march
Football, Fulham - Arsenal, Premier League
A potential stumble for Arsenal as Fulham have been amazing this season. Another London derby to watch, will fatigue hit the Arsenal squad, Mitrovic could hurt them too or will they persevere once again?
Football, Basaksehir - Besiktas, Süper Lig
Turkish atmosphere is different gravy as mentioned before and these two teams are fighting for the last spot for European football with three points between them. You just know it’s gonna be electric.
Rugby, Scotland - Ireland, Six Nations
Ireland can deliver a big blow in the competition as they could get clear of a rival team and vice versa for Scotland. I’ll be sure to learn more about rugby to give more analysis as I had to google
That’s the weekly. Is there anything I’ve missed to write down? What are you excited for? Let me know.
