EL Clásico and the return of F1 - Week 9, 2023

Monday - 27th of February

Tennis, Acapulco 500, ATP
A tennis tournament graced by some young talents in tennis, for most of whom are preparing for the tournament next week in Indian Wells. It’s good chance to look at who’s in form and who’s not. Names to look out for are Carlos Alcaraz and last year’s winner of Indian Wells, Taylor Fritz.

Tuesday - 28th of February

Football, Fulham - Leeds United, FA Cup
I’m gonna be honest, this round of the FA Cup doesn’t have some absolute corkers. However, because of a little personal bias, I’m looking forward towards this game. I wanna see if Luis Sinisterra is fit to play. If not, Summerville and/or Gnonto also very entertaining to watch. Funny enough all three players have a connection to Feyenoord. Summerville left Feyenoord as he said they didn’t have a concrete plan for him. This was because Luis Sinisterra was in front of him in the pecking order and when Sinisterra left, Gnonto was looked at as his replacement,

Football, Juventus - Torino, Serie A
The Turin derby that actually matters this year, because of the points deduction that Juvetus had to take. There’s a lot of pride at stake for both teams, there’s one point between the two Turin-based teams and the chase for European football doesn’t wait for anybody not even these two teams.

Wednesday - 1st of march

Basketball, Brooklyn Nets - New York Knicks, NBA
On paper this is going to be basketball game between a very middling team and a bad team which had all of it’s good assets leave the franchise. Though, that doesn’t remove the fact that this is a battle of New York. Maybe the games between two teams in the NBA from the same city aren’t as hyped up as in other sports, the rivalry is still there and it could provide fireworks.

Thursday - 2nd of march

Football, Real Madrid - FC Barcelona, Copa del Rey
El Classico. That should be enough to convince anyone to watch this game. To sweeten the pot a little more. FC Barcelona is back in the top and should be cruising to a title, however this is a game for the cup and Real Madrid will want to win a domestic prize. Barça will want to win the double as they’ve been knocked out of Europe by Manchester United. A historically fun game and you shouldn’t miss.

Basketball, Philadelphia 76ers - Dallas Mavericks, NBA
Another test for the recently buffed up Mavs. The Sixers are coming over and will be a true test for the combination of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Joel Embiid’s outfit have been contenders for the last couple of seasons. This should be a good matchup.

Friday - 3rd of march

Football, Borussia Dortmund - RB Leipzig, Bundesliga
Another top of the league clash. Borussia Dortmund shares the top spot with Bayern München whilst RB Leipzig is trailing the top by four points. For the latter this is a do or die moment in the season. If they win they keep the top of the league within touching distance, if they lose they’re probably out of the title race and need to fight for their Champions League with SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Saturday - 4th of march

Football, Newcastle United - Manchester City, Premier League
Newcastle has lost the Carabao cup final to Manchester United, now they’ve their city rivals over for a visit. They need a win to make sure they can overtake Tottenham Hotspurs for the final Champions League as they’have two games in hand, but they need results from those games. If Man City wants to win the leagu, they need to keep up the pressure on Arsenal. As the Gunners have a game in hand and are two points clear of City.

Sunday - 5th of march

Motorsports, Bahrain GP, F1
Formula 1 is back. This will be the first time we’ll see the cars and drivers will be on full tilt. Which team has made a great car and which drivers are going to take an early over their competitors?

Football, Liverpool - Manchester United, Premier League
I know, I know. Liverpool isn’t good this season, but this game is different. This is probably one of the greater rivalries in Europe and most definitely a top three rivalry in England. Tune into Anfield and just enjoy the scenes. And maybe, we’ll get a good match.

Motorsports, Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Indycar
Another season opener in the motorsports world? Yes, please. Indycar is the more fun, less sophisticated version of Formula 1. If you started watching F1 recently and haven’t watched any other motorsport? Do yourself a favour and tune in. Check the Indycar website, you might be able to watch the races for free!

Personally I’m gonna add the Feyenoord games to watch this week. Heereveen away for the cup and Groningen at home for the league. I’m genuinely thinking we might have a shot at the league this year. I didn’t expect this at the start of the season as almost the entire squad of last season has left and 15 players needed to be drafted in. I’m happy.

That’s the weekly. Is there anything I’ve missed to write down? What are you excited for? Let me know.
